Le Tricolore Balloon |
|
Adaptation from the full-colored lithograph print showing the French "Le Tricolore" balloon in the colors of the French flag with three passengers, believed to be Jules Duruof, his wife Caroline, and another man, standing in the basket during an ascension in Paris, June 6, 1874. In a later flight, Duruof and his wife had to be rescued at sea from the sinking basket of the "Le Tricolore" balloon which lost altitude over the North Sea off the coast of England. Duruof is also recognized as the aeronaut who flew mail out of Paris in the "Le Neptune" balloon during the Franco-Prussian war. |
