Adapted from a watercolor and ink over graphite underdrawing. showing Francesco Orlandi’s ascent from the public gardens in Bologna, Italy on November 6, 1828. Orlandi’s aerial creation consisted of a gas balloon above complemented by an inverted conical hot-air balloon below. Orlandi is in the gondola guided by propellers.
